Open Hoops

A quieter, slower basketball night for kids in grades 4 to 7. Thursdays, 5:00 to 6:30 pm, at Selkirk Elementary. Eleven nights, September 17 to December 10, 2026. Free, no tryouts, no cuts.

Open Hoops is built for neurodivergent kids and kids with other support needs, as well as their brothers and sisters who want to play, too. No diagnosis, paperwork or proof of anything is required. If you think this is the right room for your child, it is.

Every week runs the same way: same gym, same coaches, same order of events, same teammates all season. Twelve players. No whistles. There is a quiet corner your child can use any time, no questions asked, and rejoin when they are ready. Parents are welcome to stay the whole time. Nobody here is being evaluated.

Coaching is light teaching and lots of playing. Nobody is pulled aside and corrected in front of everyone, and sitting out is always allowed. Please tell us what helps your child before the first night, and we will build around it.

Registration is free but required. Or show up: come for one night or come for all eleven—no sessions on October 1 or October 22. The last night is December 10.

Sessions will occur on: Sept. 17, 24; October: 8, 15, and 29; November: 5, 12, 19, and 26; and Dec. 3 and 10.

Not sure yet? Call Tim at 867-334-9498, or Natalie at 867-393-1307. Or come and watch a night first.

The Wolf Pack Jr NBA program is designed to provide young athletes with fun, high-quality, and developmentally appropriate basketball training, programming, and coaching as part of a holistic approach to long-term athlete development.

The JNYB curriculum is flexible and aligned with the Sport Canada Long- Term Athlete Development [LTAD] Model.

Jr. NBA Youth Basketball (JNYB) is Canada’s national youth basketball program designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship, and a love for the game of basketball. Canada Basketball and NBA Canada have partnered up to create this grassroots initiative to empower community basketball groups, facilities, and clubs across Canada in an effort to positively influence youth through the sport of basketball.

JNYB allows participants the opportunity to maximize their potential while promoting the importance of youth basketball as a vehicle to build character, discipline, and self-esteem. With each session, players have an opportunity to learn both basketball and movement skills, as well as mental and life skills.

The curriculum follows the guidelines of Sport Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development [LTAD] Model and aims to give a holistic approach to athlete development. The program is geared towards youth between the ages of 5-12 and runs for 12 weeks, however, it is flexible in nature to allow local coordinators to adapt the program to their needs and resources within their community while keeping the core principles and philosophies intact.
