Player Development Program

Objectives: To develop a positive playing experience to help players and families engage with basketball.

Personal Values: Commitment, Teamwork, Empathy and Respect

Phase of Play Teaching:

  1. Transition Offence: exploiting an essential numerical advantage (i.e. 2 v 1). Progression up the court in transition (passing ahead, getting ahead).

  2. Offence: Penetrating the defence mainly through 1 v 1, initially getting open, and essential spacing.

  3. Transition Defence: Protecting the basket (getting back home)

  4. Defence: Stopping penetration (mostly 1 v 1 defence)

Methods: Conditioned fun games that allow children to understand space, dribble, pass, and shoot—low structure / high freedom (guided discovery). 1 v 1, 2 v 1 situations.

We will also be supporting children to develop a broad range of motor skills such as agility, balance, coordination, speed, and combinations of running, jumping, catching, etc.
